Can you integrate a Dakine waterman bladder- jus to make damn sure it gets banned on the first outing? ;-)

sailing a distinctly ungentlemanly aussie double hander hiker, I don't quite get how anyone can hike on those wing bars without pads- yet several do.

My point entirely Rupert.

Hiking should be banned, if you want to extend beyond the extremities of the boat then there should be some accommodation to that end, like a wire, or one of those sliding gentlemen perches they use on those canoe boats, if the boat isn't designed in such a way as to make it comfortable then it shouldn't be allowed.

Ah the joy of two-handing, so to speak, no pun intended, one has a crew to do all that leaning out nonsense, while one adjusts the odd control and ponders the mysteries of the top batten

I wear Neil Pryde ones under my wetsuit unless it's warm and then I just wear them under board shorts.  So far, so good and for sailing gear at least they were a sensible price.

Once upon a time, they were banned in the Firefly fleet. Still should be, according to the rules. Can't remember the wording, but sitting out aids aren't allowed, barring toestraps, and it used to be that hiking shorts fell into that catagory. I went AWOL from open meetings for a few years, and when I came back, loads of people were wearing them. Probably should have protested, to see if the rule was being broken. Too late now, I guess - they have become the norm.

I solve the problem by perching - sitting out isn't for gentlemen.

Stops the back of my legs from hurting like hell from the bruising that I used to get before I had them. Well worth the £65 I spent. I spent the other £35 I didn't need to spend on beer and pies.... LOL

"hikers should be banned"

.....back to canvas shorts, cable-knit wooly jumpers and obligatory pipe smoking down wind eh? set off with perhaps just a hint of 4X beer towel sown onto one's shorts.....
