I'm using my new found examlessness to get rid of the non-slip on the 29er, which is the nasty abrasive stuff that's ripped my harness to shreds in only 6 or 7 times out. I'm replacing it with the standard EVA pro-grip from Ovington, but I want to glue it rather than use just the self adhesive. Most of the adhesives at say that they shouldn't be used on polyethene and polpropylene, the former being a constituent of the EVA foam. Does that mean the glue damages those polymers, or does it simply not bond to them properly? If it does cause damage, does anyone have any suggestions as to which product to choose?

I think some glues act as a solvent for certain types of plastic. Some plastics are really inert and don't glue well. Polypropylene may well fall into this category as it's got that sort of slippery feel to it.

Try with a little offcut.
Most people use some sort of contact adhesive. The solvent may well attack the pro-grip a bit, but if you use the right amount of adhesive, it's more etching the surface that dissolving the sheet. FWIW, I used the spray contact adhesive that carpet fitters used, it was pretty successful apart from a few edges needing re-gluing. The edges are always an issue, as you need to glue right up to the edge or it will peel, but any glue beyond the edge is an awful mess. The masking tape I put on to control the glue on the deck never seemed to be in quite the right place when it came to gluing. I think some people go around the edges last with RTV or polyurethane sikaflex? |

I've used wickes impact adhesive with good results and no problems. Thixofix works well but is hard to get hold of.

I've always used EVO-Stick. In fact I have just pro-gripped my Farr 3.7 with EVO, of course you need to be over 18 to by the stuff these days which can be a bind if you are a youff.

gluing pro grip onto an ovington 29er shouldn't a problem. We have a full progrip deck on the ovi B14 with no issues. We did use the ready glued stuff but i think in the long term the gluing sheets yourself last longer.
I'd suggest evostik impact adhesive. Lots of prep to get it to work Rod |

We use the self adhesive pro grip on the wings of our 49er. Just make sure the surface is clean and you have keyed it up with some 60-120 grit sand paper. Also using a hot air gun or hairdryer after you have stuck it on will help in the long term. Then if you really fancy finishing it nicely, mask around the pro grip once it is stuck on and sand the edges down. You can use rough sand paper but finish it with some finer stuff and ideally wet/dry. Or sikaflex all the way around but I am not a fan of this way.

I had the same problem. You need to be aware that the progrip can shrink slightly in contact with the adhesive.
