Anyone here every sailed an event at Travemuende, Germany?

Can you tell me what the general conditions are like July/Aug time: i.e. generally flat water, large rolling waves, strong sea breezes, windy windy windy?

Many thanks

We did an RS Eurocup there a few years ago as part of Travemunde Week - fantastic event.

We experienced everything from a flat water drifter to a full on big wave blast

We sailed the same Eurocup in 2007, wind was from nothing to Force 8.

At Travemünde Week in 2004 the general weather system gave us no wind at all, but we had up to Force 5 onshore in the afternoon as the sun was burning down on the land hard enough.

So it basically can be everything...

Don't you have to ask for a "Bob Marley, Extra Crispy" at the local pizza place for that?

Rick, I think they dredge regularly in the Fjord, so plants are not the problem.

Last year the Optimists faced 8Bft and they would have continued had it not been for the anchor chain breaking on the start boat and the leeward marker drifting off...

Pass the skiff, man!

Maybe Optimists are tougher... or they're like those little toys - weebles I think - who when they get knocked down just bounce back up for more... Anyways, just read the appropriate info before your reflex response. It's in the english language too, so no excuses

I wasn't doubting it! After reading that though, I'm shocked that the only damage was one broken 29er mast!

Either the European boats are built and sailed properly, or the Tiger in 2008 was force 15! (about 6 29er masts went iirc!)

When I did the MPS Gold Cup there weed was a nightmare ...

Parking on the beach was also bad as you really struggled to move the boats on trollies and there were no hoses. But the fayre was great ...
