Hi there
I am hoping to teach my young lads to sail.
Initially drawn to FRP Miracle but may not be able to get one... Also worried
that I am just over 6ft and may be a little big, even though the boys are still
small.
Any recommendations for the laser 2000?

The L2k is a great boat. Well laid out and good fun to sail. Not disimilar to the Miracle in terms of target market - just 20+ years between their design.

My Dad had a ply Miracle back in the early 80s and if he was still sailing now says he would get a L2k tomorrow.

2000 is well laid out, and you'll easily fit- it's pretty roomy, with a reasonably high boom. It's happy in a very wide range of wind conditions too- the main is easily reefable, and sails well with the reefed sail.

Think aoput where you will sail and off water handling. At 100kg the 2tonner is a big lump compared to 59kg for the Miracle. On the other hand it will carry more weight than the smaller boat, which probably tops out not far above 16stone crew weight.

I've a L2000, and it's great for taking the kids out, and also fun to sail with
other adults. Also, it's a current class with plenty of other boats and owners
around to offer support.

I can vouch for the merits of a 2K, we had 45 stone (3 BIG blokes) in a f5-6 no problems at all.  Really flew with the kite up as well.  Does like to invert quite quickly so you might want a mast head float initially.
Still swimming with an RS700!

L2K is a decent boat for what you're after but Jim C is right, take a good long look at the slipway where you'll be sailing from, if it's steep and/or shingle, then it may not be the best option and something smaller might be a good option... as always, I suggest you canvas opinion at your chosen club and see what they say... someone always comes up with a few points you've never considered!

Another consideration to think about is daggerboads. Both these classes have them, so not ideal if you're going to be sailing where there are shallows (i.e. gravel pits, etc).

A good alternative with a swivelling centreboard might be a plastic Enterprise, a Scorpion, or evan an oder Merlin.

My L2000 doesn't have a daggerboard

As said, the 2000 has a swinging centreboard, so that's not a problem.
