What are peoples views of the Dinghy and Watersports show this year ?
My wife and havnt been since covid . We were generally impressed and there seemed to use to be more women, children and disabled at the show than I remembered. Which can only be a good thing for the sport

I know for a lot of people it is a more difficult location.
But for us, driving from Coventry, it no more difficult than getting to ally pally. It just takes about 10/15mins longer .

For me, it's about an extra hour to Farnborough, as it's almost perfectly the wrong side of London. That puts it up to about 4 hours journey, without hold ups.
In the early 1980s I did a fortnights course at a building that was at or about the show site, remembering the huge traffic jams every morning, Though I note now the roads have been altered. I've been going since the days of Crystal palace, but not been to the show at Farnborough yet.. I don't go every year, Edited by The Q - 07 Mar 24 at 1:54pm |

I don't think it will ever move higher up the country, majority of active sailors and majority of top clubs are along the south coast.

Big boats maybe, but I've sailed dinghies and small boats in the Hebrides, Firth of Forth, North Wales, east anglia, the Midlands, Somerset. There are dinghy sailors everywhere, and a huge concentration of clubs in the Midlands. |

Ditto sailing area, minus the Hebrides and Firth of Forth.
Would be interesting to see spread of people who have attended boat shows this century, wouldn't be surprised if three quarters of them were in the south. This may be due to geography, perhaps, if the show was in the Midlands attendance would increase. Big gamble for organising body if attendance plummeted. Regarding midlands area my old club is now down to six sailors and twenty odd members, from talking to sailing people at other small local clubs, they are only slightly better off, hopefully bigger clubs are doing better. There are some 100,000 or so dinghy sailors apparently. As I recall, about 8,000 attend the dinghy show. This number includes kite sailors etc.etc.
Some of us are simply not able to attend, either because of distance or simply cost….in my case both….Channel Islands and approx £1000. I have always felt let down by the coverage the show receives. Could I appeal to those who are keen enough to exhibit, to actively promote yourselves to those of us who cannot attend, and put something on YouTube or similar. I would love to see the latest rig setups, the new layout of fittings. The new fittings for goodness sake. It strikes me that those of you who make a living out of those of us who are interested could do a much better job letting us know what is going on at “the greatest boat show” currently available. Please.
