Great British Sailing Challenge launched
  • Series of handicap events throughout the year
  • Any sail-powered craft.
  • At least one event per month
  • 100 boats in each event.
  • Ranking points from each event
  • Top 100 sailors invited to a winner-takes-all-final in Autumn 2019
  • Specialist rankings: age, gender and boat type
What's the forums thoughts? We've discussed the the success of the winter series before, but will it translate to the summer months where they're competing with class racing?

Will they produce handicaps for tide? Or will it still be inland based? I can't imagine travelling inland for a handicap event in sea breeze season where they're is more likely to be class opens on the coast.

Which existing events will be incorporated and where will the new events be?

Will all be inland, less likely to be cancelled.

I dunno, I'm not sure this is a great idea. The "summer for class racing" "winter for handicap events" works pretty well, and while big events are nice earners for individual clubs that have the capacity to host them, its also takingaway people from the individual clubs.

i believe it'll be done on dynamic handicap mozzy.

less likely to be cancelled at tidal venues surely, tides are predictable, water companies emptying their reservoirs less so 432zero

This is spot on... what clubs will be left to host such events when many could be left running on shoestring budgets - both in terms of Man power and financial resources.

This programme facilitates a zero requirement for club membership - whilst that has always been the case to some extent, this really could blow the bloody doors off.

So, sailboards, keelboats and catamarans.
That should make it a challenge for the race committee.

Kite boards, what sort of line would they take ?
Foilers too then, may as well.
