The Laser, another 4 points slower - really? Is this some other Laser that hasn't had only improvements to its design over the years and a new sail even?

Icon? The hiker as fast as trapeze boats like the Contender and not far off the RS500 and Laser 3000? Really?

Cherub? What's happened there then returns coming from some downwind only club?

Supernova, all that reworking yet 4 points slower? Honestly how big was that brown envelope?

Well it provides a few moments of humour, but really what are they on?

The Laser had 21k returns, which is huge.  So,  I'm not surprised to see it get slower.    The mechanical improvements of the boat are not really relevant to the "across the board"  skill of Laser helms.

To me, a quick glance through the new numbers for the boats I come across on the race track, doesn't look out of order.   I have to sail my boat 0.61% faster now.  The trouble is I'm sailing it slower than that, by a great multiple, each year.  Cry

How can we have only 361 races returned for the Mirror?
How can you change a boat's PY by 8 on the basis of 167 races?

The Cadet dropped 7 points.  I noticed it has an experimental number.   Is it now a development class like the Int Canoe?

Not enough races for a normal number.

I don't suppose Cadets do much handicap racing.

I do wonder what the point of moving a boat by 1 point is, but other than that, it seems OK. Though I think the Streakers and British Moths must wonder why they have such harsh handicaps.

As for the OP, I'd rather go by the numbers than any nonsense spouted on here.

The NS14, the boat that inspired the Icon, is rated basically as fast as the Contender.  So is the Tasar, another NS-inspired hiker, in the place the two classes came from.

While your response is probably going to be predictable, the fact that the two boats closest to the Icon (but theoretically slower) both rate basically as fast as the Contender in the place all three came from indicates that the Icon's rating may not be too far off.

There's a class missing from the list.... But that's fair enough, since none has been sailed in the UK yet...

I posit 1700 for the Cape Cod Frosty.... If I keep winning at that, it might go up!

LOL
