Has anyone had a trolley stripped & re-dipped?
Is it good as new? Medgalv quoted me £75+VAT (90quid) for a strip'n'dip vs £456 for a new replacement from RS |

to be fair at less than a 100 quid if its an improvement that would seem good value.

I guess id be worried that I'm only looking to this process because the old galvanizing has started to fail and the trolley is going rusty... does removing the old and preparing for new weaken the trolley significantly. I realize no one will have the answer to that but as per the original poster it would be good to get some feed back from any one that has done this.

I've not heard of anyone doing this, I guess most people don't think about their trolley until it's past help.
Catching it in time might be important here, once the rust has set in then dipping in the acid tank won't fix the rust.
My trolley is just turning tea coloured in a couple of small patches, so I think it's now or never.
Incidentally the £75+VAT was Medgalvs minimum charge, I wonder what it would be if we put 2 together? PM me if interested, I want to do it next week.

Its the rust that will have weakened the trolley... What would worry me is how much more corrosion is going on inside in arguably more corrosion favourable conditions.

When you can see the effects of rust on the outside then it makes you wonder what it is like on the inside. I have never heard of anyone re-dipping their trolley. Usually rust on the outside means that failure is not far off. I have seen a few stainless steel trolleys but given the price of 316 stainless they must have been expensive.

Agreed, if you have established rust on the outside then it's a reasonable assumption it must be as bad or worse inside, which would make painting a pointless exercise.
At least with a strip&dip the inside would get some re-treatment.
My trolley is only just starting to stain, not scaling rust, that will be next year if I don't do something.
I made an excellent Laser trolley from GRP pultrusion in 1995, it's been a work in progress ever since, but fully sorted now.
Still going great, it's light, strong, floats and will be around after I've gone, which isn't necassarily a good thing of course.
Will make one for the 200 soonish,,,been saying that for a while now.

Galvanising charges by weight generally, plus a basic charge. The goods are weighed in, then galvanised and weighed out and the cost depends on the amount of weight the process has added.

Update:
I picked up the 200 and the boys Laser trollies from Medglav last night.
Both were stripped & re-dipped for £90(min order) & look like new trollies.
I will post back at 5 year intervals to let you all know the progress (not).
Having Googled the properties of galvanising a bit I was interested to read that the zinc coating works in the same way as ships anodes and should therefore be replaced when depleted, or buy another trolly.
