In 1990 my dad brought a Laser 'Race 90' number 141721 for £1400, its now for sale for £1600.

In 25 years it has APPRECIATED in value WOW

Not quite beaten inflation, but good effort! Personally, I'm really good at buying high and selling low...

That's not to difficult to do with lasers. I bought my first one for £400 and sold it twenty years later for £550. Am hoping to make the same profit margin on a newer one I bought this year in another twenty years.

Supply and demand. But then factor in what has been spent. I would imagine several new sails, several covers, XD control upgrade maybe a second rig (radial, 4.7 or 8.1). Then think has it really apreciated in value?

There are a lot of Lasers on the market at present (end of season glut?)

i sold my rs300 for just under 2k back in 2003 and that took some time too. Comparable aged boats seem to be going for 3-4k now, 12 years on.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Supply and demand again Maxi, they were sought after for a while once people got over the 'hard to sail' stigma that they got saddled with.

i realise that jeffers, i was just trying to give a more extreme example. the fact that there were only a couple hundred 300's to buy from means the issue is more extreme than with the laser. the fact that there are so many lasers out there shouldn't mean that they increase in value (not taking inflation into account) like that, buti guess it has

ok so appreciate is a strong word, I know £1400 had a lot more worth in 1990 than today. It has had a new trolley, sails and XD kit but my point is that after 25 years of use it hasn't lost anything.

shows that for all the sh*t we can all on occasion sling at it, the Laser is still one of the best boats for your average weekend warrior to purchase...  Confused
