So I'm after another pair of wetsuit boots as mine seem to have disintegrated. I sail really quite regularly so need something that is warm and also robust - my last pair was a fairly cheap pair of 5mm surfing/ windsurfing boots which were warm but obviously not that robust. Are there any suggestions as to what I should have a look at? I did sort of look at the rooster laced boots, but I don't fully trust their boots as I had the all purpose boots which broke up quite quickly; as such I wouldn't have them again. Any experiences of those boots/ideas of others?

Are you trapezing, hiking or other?
My lads got some Gul Windwards, which are popular with the Laser crowd and seem durable and are aparently warm enough, he did discard the ankle straps. I got recomended O'Neill Mutants for my trapeze boat which I promptly sold. They are warm and so far durable, but I'm not mad on the split toe, especially with undersocks. |

They're like wearing slippers in the boat, super comfy and can literally run up and down the beach no issues Add sealskinz socks for added warmth in the winter, literally other than the initial shock of water against your feet they'l be nice and warm in a couple of mins, cant feel a thing after that. Added benefit that in the summer you can use them to prevent putting on wet boots too!

I helm 420s and 470s mostly, though sometimes crew. I also sail a hobie 16 or firefly more infrequently, so quite a collection of boats!

Update:
I have now narrowed down my choice to two boots; the Gul CZ windward boots and the Rooster Pro Laced boot. Does anyone have any advice as to which I should choose? Also, does anyone know where to get the best price?

rooster from just rooster
gul cz windward- cheaper if you're size 8 or 12 and free delivery regardless http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gul-Windward-Round-Boot-BO1279/dp/B00FWZJZMC Comparing the 2 it looks like the gul is better value for money, £37 is pretty mad on a pair of boots and they don't look anything special. also zip is easier to use |

Rooster from just Rooster as the man said, sound a bit expensive to me.
I got the lads Guls from WetsuitOutlet, they have a no quibble return policy on sizing though you do have to pay the return postage cost, their shop is Southend I think.
I thought the Guls were a good boot at a good price.

I have the Rooster Pro lace boots. They are a great fit for me and worth the money. My only question is longevity as some people have had problems with them falling apart. Mine show no sign of this yet though.

I have had the Gul CZ windward boots for around 18 months and they are very good. They are cut slightly wider than some other boots that I have and are very comfortable - so much so that my crew who was always complaining about his big toe being squished in other types has actually gone out and bought himself a pair. Good feel through the boots and good grip.
No idea where you get the best price - I went to my local chandlery which is Pinnell and Bax which enabled me to try them on. OK |
