I've been racing since the early 70's, during which time I've made no significant claims with Noble or any other insurance company. However, having recently put in a minor claim, it is evident Noble Marine is not the company it was in Richard Langford's day and I for one will be placing my future business elsewhere. I'm quite disgusted that they should quibble over £14.60 (particularly given the thousands I've shelved out in premiums over the years) and then have the arrogance to send a cheque as a fait accompli. For decades I've recommended M.A.Noble / Noble Marine to others and taken the view that the higher premiums they charge were more than compensated by a no-nonsense approach and above-average customer service. Well, I now hold the view that's a myth. I certainly won't be attending any events that are associated with Noble Marine in the future.

Just a tad harsh.
Personally I used them for years up until the last two years and never had a problem. I've had various new masts and sails off them and never had a problem. Infact the way a claim usually went for me was: snap mast, come ashore, buy new one to race the next day, race, then Monday morning send receipt and picture of broken mast. By Tuesday I am fully reimbursedminus the excess. I thought that was great service by them.

I changed to another company over the last couple of years as they were significantly cheaper, but regret it. I made a claim 3 months ago for a mast and sails and it was accepted and given the go ahead after 3 weeks (a bit long I believe for an accident which has come off anothers insurance). But sadly I haven't received either mast or sail yet as the insurers haven't paid anyone, despite ringing and chasing them up 13 times!
Believe me, Noble are pretty good! At least they endeavour to get you on the water ASAP, whereas mine couldn't give a flying f*** that you can't go sailing without a mast

Only claimed once myself from Noble about 3 years ago, but I was very impressed with the experience and continue to insure with them, for 3 boats.

From the tiny amount of detail you give it's pretty much impossible to judge what's happened to you, or what the problem was.

I too have changed from Noble for monetary reasons, but had good service for a broken mast.Jamesd, I don't believe in naming on forums, but could you pm me the name of the company you are having trouble with, in case I'm now insured with them?

I have insured through Nobles since the 70's, never had a problem.  My last claim was three or four years ago for a new boom and a sail repair ... settled with no issues.

Mrs Fleaberto is with Noble and they were superb about her recent 'lost sail' issue. Amazingly helpful.

Noble these days isn't the same company as it was in the 70s. It was sold a few years ago to Royal Sun Alliance. You won't get the same sort of small-business-know-our-customers-personally type service that you got in the 70s but that doesn't mean you won't necessarily get good service.

I feel as loyal to my dinghy insurer as I do to my car insurer or home insurer these days.

I havent claimed for a couple of years now but Noble have always come through in the past. I had a mast claim with another Co. years ago and it got silly, almost petty & personal.
