I see there a couple of newish Icons for sale at good prices on Apollo Duck. I was thinking of a boat for Scotland also.
Are there any fleets building and who is selling them up north? Are there going to be any class events next year.

Should I buy an Icon????

Best advice would be to contact the Icon CA and/or Devoti who build and market the boat ... early adopters are inevitably scattered.  I do not know of any active Iconists in Scotland myself but I could be wrong - perhaps Devoti or one of their agents  could arrange a loan or better still a decent demonstration if you are interested.

btw - there is an existing Icon thread on this forum - seeing as you are such a recent 'newbie' ....  might be worth a read.

It might also be worth confirming where you sail etc.  Plus do you have an available crew ?  Always worth checking these basics while considering any boat in our opinion.  Lastly what else do they sail at your club  ?  All this more often determines optimal boat choice in our experience.

We're also thinking of buying one, currently waiting for a moment when 'we' my crew and I can get where one is to try it out.
It looks a really simple layout, has very nice lines and is light to manoeuvre on the beach which is the biggest issue we have with our current boat.

The only problem with it seems to be they forgot to fit it with a spinnaker and used the pole to kind of dangle it in a way that it gets caught up with the jib, nothing a bit of butchering can't fix, but a shame they didn't design it properly in the first place.

It will be interesting to see if RS's (alleged) new ultralight single hander is the start of a trend of lighter boats. It's about time there was a seriously light production two person hiking boat?

Could just be GRF advertising them to drive prices down?
Half the stuff on Apollo Duck seems to not actually be available sometimes...
