No - I don't think you could go closer to the wind as that is down to to the sail settings.

The Centre/dagger board stops the boat from going sideways. Changing the sail setting/pattern would affect sailing closer to the wind.

You could always try this with your Mirror. Ask someone to make a daggerboard double the length your's is, see how your boat performs!

If you had a centreboard the length of the hull, would it make you go closer to the wind? A bit like a very think lightweight keel.  I know there'd be loads of problems like how to retract it, perhaps it could cant? I'm ready to be instructed on why this is a silly idea but I admit to having only a very basic idea of how centreboards work anyway. Ideas please!
