That's all very true, Jim, but the difference between the Cherub and 800 PY's is nearly 19%, and now we're being told that they are the same speed!

I don't care which boat gets it, (though I hope its NOT another Bethwaite boat), but my favourite from what I've seen on the net for the role is the GT60 (my favourite out right would be the I14).

The things I've read have implied that ISAF may not choose any of these boats, or may not even introduce a womens skiff class to the olympics.

On the other end of the scale, there was a sense that the some of the choices were too big and/ or complicated, such as the Cherub Daemon, Carbonology GT60, and International 14. Interestingly, on the last day of the evaluation, the wind finally increased to 12+ knots, and it was the 29erXX that stayed out the longest due to demand.

If someone in the event has a Cherub *built* to the current rule set (there are three or four sailing in the UK I think, counting the Daemons, plus another when Dave finishes reworking the GT60 bow and also some in France) then the RC would be justified in not using the current published PY number. I certainly wouldn't if I was the PRO.

All this talk of which boat is fastest is a bit silly, its well documented on the whole. I saw the xx helmed by an ex olympian, beaten every day during Federation week by a bunch RS800 club sailors, In the same races the 14s disappered over the horizon in close contact with the 49er. This happened every day not a couple of times in a short race. The 14s raced with the 49ers at the tide ride and finished mid fleet overall. The 800s where beating the xx by legs of the course not a few yards. The moth beat the 14s by 15mins per race............ we dont need a trial in Hyeres to tell us the relative speeds of the boats..........unless you stick your head in the sand.

So, what number should RO's now use?

Well if they are as fast as modern 14s. I have been informed the 14's at Itchenor are sailing off 747
