This might mean 'less single file sailing' as suggested - but in fact means there is no point being in front at the mark if you can't get round it!

Except that the video doesn't support your point - everyone gets around just fine on the first lap when you'd expect carnage, and there are lots of lanes in use.

Sensible, mature fleet of course...

leaders who get TO the mark first, but can't round it ( ie by having to round the mark after tacking onto port, therefore waiting for the rest on stbd behind, before they can tack and round )

The bigger/ closer the fleet, the worse it gets.

I don't suppose you get stbd roundings in a 120 boat fleet of RS200s!

Why not just score in reverse order?

The leaders make symmetrical kite work look so easy...

Yes that is me on the leeward end . Good start, atrocious tack. 2 of us were ready for it, but you only have to leave one behind for it to all go to sh#t.  And yes we had to do a couple of turns after we stopped going backwards.

As for the GPS, it's the first time we've taken it out in a decent breeze. It clocked 23.9kn max speed but I couldn't guarantee that to be accurate as most of the time when I saw the speedo it was hovering around 19kn. However if it is accurate, that speed was most likely achieved in the puff of the day when we were 2 sail reaching. Couldn't check the speed then as I couldn't see anything. Wiped out soon after arrival of said puff .
