Greame

If there is nothing to exciting in Kent on Saturday (I lived there once so I know !)  why not get along to Burghfield - the Blaze CA is running a training day there but you might just possibly get to see something else  .... er ..... of particular interest.

Yes ... A Blaze with a carbon mast under trial you already know about and one.  Another 'Blaze' sort of thing with more than one sail might also be tempted .... you can't keep a great idea down for long !  And no we are not talking 1st April

... we'll see is we can't tempt the shy creature out of hiding if there is sufficient interest.

Mike L.

PS - And no I did not do this one myself ... nor did Peaky ... but I did supply a few bits and pieces  !!  Wink

"cages" GRF ?

Don't like the sound of that one bit.

As to the bathing reference...

O.K. Pop Quiz.. Name another dinghy that more resembles a bath tub
than
the 300?

And tell me Rupert when you finally realised your parents had named you
after an imaginary bear with distinctly dubious taste in trousers why did
you not opt for name change by deed poll?

Anyone got a picture handy of the "cages" that some of the cats taking part in the Worral 1000 were fitted with so that the crew could spend hours out to windward of the cat without having to trapeze? Maybe something like that would work for GRF?

Ha laugh it up fat boy...

Bet I could get that thing round a course quicker than you in that bath tub
you've taken to wasting good stomp pads on..

P.S. How is the diet going? I hear the Cambridge solution is really your only
hope.

Is it a boat?  Is it a windsurfer?  Is it a waste of space and effort? Well someone thinks it's worth £25 (maybe)

NB:

I learnt the stick and main sheet bit first, with a crew on the jib and hiking.  Then single handed sans wire in light winds, then built up to doing it all from the wire;  THEN bought a boat with a kite.  Took a couple of seasons and lots of getting wet, but well worth it.  Starting with a boat that must have the kite up down wind in order to stay upright (eg the MPS) is probably a mistake.

The main problem with the wire is that you're suddenly a lot less mobile than hiking, making it harder to correct mistakes made with the sheet and rudder.  I guess it takes a while for your brain to automate all the functions.

Fully 'batterned '(sic) sail;

But would it meet Grumpf's approval? Are they tapered?

I learnt to trapeze mostly on my brothers 14 but in all honesty by the time I got my 600 I still had very little experience on the trap which made it a lot harder but also more rewarding when it all came together...

I would recommend learning to trapeze first otherwise you learning to run before you can walk....

bitter experience, trying to learn to do the lot single handing all in one go is
tricky especially if you don't happen to have any residual stick waggling
skills to fall back on and the kite thing has to be occasionally hauled up and
down.

Which is why some people take the time to learn all the components in isolation (ie spinnaker and trapeze in the front end of a crewed boat) and then put it all together. Doesn't happen in 5 mins but it works........

Absolutely right.  I used to think I sailed my contender relatively well till I started going to open meetings.  Then I discovered all the other guys were way better than me because they spent so much time in the boat.

That's why this year I have forked out to join Grafham and I go and train at every opportunity.  In fact, I'm going now....

Interesting to see that twice contender world champ Marcus Hamilton has just won the MPS event down under at Black Rock.
