Query - have drytops been banished from existance?? Since my drytop seal perished over winter, and getting it sent away to have a new neck seal put on costs nearly 40 quid, I've been looking online to buy a new drytop but they seem to be non-existant. I tried to replace the seal myself, but with no luck, hence I'd be sending it away to be done. I'm sure drytops used to be very common for dinghy sailors with all the major brands making one but am having a lot of trouble finding any. Does any1 know if and why drytops have stopped being made/sold? Or of anywhere that does still make a decent one?
Cheers for the help

I bought a Gul dry top last season (deliberately) with neoprene rather than latex seals: http://www.sailboats.co.uk/Product~Gul_Plasma_Dry_Top_Mens_N ew_2006_GM0261.html Neck seal needed the merest trim, but now it's great. So good in fact that I'm wondering if I can get away with sailing in winter by wearing fleeces under it in combo with a 5mm long-john (avoiding sweaty arms and scuffed neck of a normal steamer) instead of my vulnerable, latex-sealed drysuit. Only trouble, I can't find a 5mm long john...

I've switched to a spray top - the lack of neck seal hardly makes a difference. But what I have discovered is the difference between a plain waterproof top and a breathable top. Sitting around (afloat) between races at one Nationals I got quite cold with the condensation inside the top. That evening I won a breathable top and used it the next day, even though it was colder weather I didn't get cold between races. On the down side the top is now about 4 years old and no longer waterproof - so I get cold during races now.

Interesting, that's precisely the opposite of my action and experience! With my old Gill spray top, unless I did the neck up uncomfortably tight I ended up soaked as spray just poured in. With the dry top, the cold, wet experience has gone. I do think that getting the neck fit is important, however, and a mm trimmed can make all the difference, so you need to do it gradually... |

Going back to Topic, can you buy a drytop with neoprene seals? Anyone got one? |
