I wasn't at Uni when he was appointed, so no idea of how it happened.  There were some sailors there, I guess they thought he was the best.  His only problem was that he bought a 600, which took him away from where the club was sailing. 

No doubting he's a talented sailor. 

We wil lse how talented when we do the TAsa event, with his ability and my crapness we should be a fairly average crew

I think uni sailing needs a bit of a shake up. I met Charles Chandler at his old club (Elton SC) where I sailed with Salford Uni back in the late 90's, and he will tell you how cr*p our boats were. 4 x knackered 420's and 2 x ents which although reasonably new were trashed. I now believe that Salford uni no longer has a sailing club as the Student Union at Salford decreed it too expensive to insure, and yet south coast uni's seem to be able to buy new fleets of fireflys and even J80's. A levelling of the playing field is surely required ?
