My G/F is moaning cause i'm sailing 20-21st Jan then going snowboarding for a week the next weekend.  She will stay in watch telly and play with the cats.  My point is I imagine I'm not the only bloke who does a fair bit of sport whilst their other half does none.  If you want to increase participation of women in sailing you need to increase female participation in all sports.  Which needs to be addressed at school level and in female specific publications.  Don't see alot on sport in cosmo!!

The sheet loads on a 49er kite are not high as it is a well balanced cut. That leaves the problem of getting the kite up and down. Again it's not difficult, there's a lot of rope to pull with a masthead spinnaker but crew and  helm have to work on the best downwind angle for the hoist. My crew is a 15st bear (metaphor) but even he struggles to pull the kite up if I am sailing too high. I have always figured that it is best to get the thing up and flying asap so I take the hit and steer slightly deeper until it's up (2 boatlengths?). And if you struggle to get it down you need more McLube.

The Hurricane class has a predominance of mixed crews. The female generally crews but at our club we have the reverse where the bloke keeps the bows down. This actually is the best arrangement of weight. The mainsheet loads on a Hurri are high but the women do very well, in fact, Elaine will kick my butt almost everytime. I'm a better singer though.

Perhaps it's down to us chaps to get more women sailing then ... my wife had never sailed before we met and now sails most weekends ... but she is not keen on winter sailing

Having sung with Elaine I can agree with Dave on the singing front, can't possibly be worse though I do run her a close second.

The problem is getting more girls to sail and then feeling confident around male dominated sailing clubs and circuits. Two of my ex girlfriends helm cats and do very well at it. On the Tornado especially I am suprised not to see more girls driving.

All girl crews will come when there is a reason for it. If a nice to sail boat is chosen I am sure there will be more than enough people to sail it. No more Ynglings!!

Will the Yngling be the boat to go? I guess you'd get 3 new teams for every 2 old ones that way, booting boat numbers straight away!

Can't see a womens class being one that drops the 11 medals to 10. They need to increase the % of women sailors in the games ...

My best guess is that the plan is to put the 470 on the chopping block. The women get a new skiff class to become the xx side of the 49er. So the Men's 470 medal is the one eliminated.  Of course the 470 class isn't really on board with this and can be relied upon to fight back.

I suspect this is a bit of an understament ...

Do those criteria necessarily discount the 470?
Mibbe a bit of shuffling around with the deck layout and a standardised mould or something....
Will be interesting to see what is at the evaluation event, sometimes weird and cool things turn up (Mader Mach 2 anyone...)
