Umm, they have the Yngling, Star(ok popular with rich americans) and Skud!!!
And others that I don't think people would sail if they weren't olympic.

You are probably correct but today how many all female crews are sailing twin trap boats?

Should the Olympics not reflect the sport rather that the reverse?

I personally would think it will go twin trap, after all they are trying to make sailing more exciting to watch and more spectator friendly, and surely the more athletic girlies on trapeze wires the better!

Seriously though from a perception point of view going twin trap has a number of advantages.  The boats will tend to be faster than single wire boats, there will be more crashes, it's easier to get on board footage featuring two heads in frame, it will put the womens classes on equal terms with the mens (ie a twin wire skiff), mark roundings will tend to be more exciting to watch (helm staying out on wire etc) plus if the conditions are variable there will be more obvious differentiators with what is happening ("The Brits went left up the beat and are twin wiring into the top mark where the US on the right are only single wiring, in the meantime the Swiss have elected to single wire and soak downwind where the French are twinning and sending it).

If I recall rightly you don't see women's cycles with a dropped crossbar any more, the kit is just a smaller version of the mens!

Rick

You're right, just picked up on the twin trapeze option and suggested on ebased on that.    29er is a good idea, have only sailed one a couple of times and really liked them.

ISAF have not given much notice for this trial and as such I guess that the boats at the trial will be existing classes.

It would be pretty difficult to develop a new class between now & April but I am sure there are companies that can do this ...

However, just because there is a trial it dosn't meant that anything will change but good to see ISAF taking a look at this.

The brief is pretty open - I don't understand why most people think this has to be a twin trap class; that part of the brief is optional ...

How many all female crews are sailing twin trap boats right now - probably just a handfull in the UK and almost none anywhere else ...

Seems to me the standard 29er would fit the bill well and it's already well proven.

Ummm, it says they make some change to deck layout and the like, but not much else - but they've thought of the new name!

I wonder who else has been asked to get involved, Laser?
