Upwind be prepared to brace your back leg rather than your front...feels a little odd if you are coming out of a 505, Fireball, 470 or similar. And don't be put off when she starts singing to you downwind! |

Well, Had our first day out on the RS 800 today and I think it's going to take quite a few more outings to get to grips with it. 2 races and 5 capsizes. but we did hook it up on the last reach and start to fly, what a boat. It's a bit of a shock to the system when you've been sailing cats for the last 15 years, it ain't half tippy. It was a lovely day but a bit gusty so I'm putting a couple of the swims down to being on the wire when the wind switched off. I imagine that things are much easier in a steady wind. How far back should crew be going upwind in 10-15 mph wind and a bit of swell? I kind of went through the sail on the last capsize so if we get that fixed by two weeks time we'll see how it goes. (weather permitting) Thanks for al the tips |
