Surely they can't be that bad!  If you guys are right the Spice really is a terrible boat...

In which case a test sail is an absolute must before investing.

The Spice was an resonable boat, but like many from the bigger builders if it didn't make the share holders money it was dropped.

Cherubs...........boats for wee boys with a lot of time on their hands to re-glue them together. Steer clear you can do better

If the Spice is really that bad a boat then what does that say about the quality of Y&Y's dinghy reviews?

Google 'topper spice feature' to get the same article which was originally published in Y&Y. I used to love the photos in that article and once upon a time was desperate to sail one!

It always looks good in pics because it kicks up loads of spray and the bow rides VERY high downwind. It is the upwind performance that is really bad on the spice sinc ethe mains is too small, downwind is ok. It is quite common to be single wiring upwind and twin wiring down.

Take y&y reviews with a pinch of salt. When was the last time really really slated a boat? Also, when they reviewed it topper was spening at LOT of money advertising in y&y...

i don't think i have ever read a y&y test that did not love the boat. but doesn't this defeat the point of having a test? apparently for the rs feva test, they didn't even sail it. they spent all the time writing about how it was made, and very little describing how it sailed. they even used the same pics from the brochure.

Whether its a good boat or not, there is one thing for sure i'l say about that boat!  When its blowing silly windy and almost all the boats are onsure and you know if you go out you're either going to break something or at best really struggle, there's one twin wire i wouldnt mind having to go out and get wet in.  Extremely underpowered doesnt mean extremely bad, it means only to be used when all other boats are being securely tied down!
