I think it is a little like a 'Concept Car', in that it points in a slightly new design direction.  I love the way the designer has simplified the forms and I think he has produced a great looking boat.  However, I think he has made a few sacrifices to achieve aesthetic simplicity and can't imagine it would be a great sailing experience.

There are a some functional aspects of the design which look suspect: the rig appears to be an afterthought and the designer has made as few concessions as possible to supporting it... so the mast is supported only very low down, no shrouds, lowers or spreaders and no support even at deck level, with the consequence that it appears to have a very crude fully battened sail with a very open leach.

Similarly the hiking position looks uncomfortable, bit too much of a stratch between the single (elegant) toestrap and the narrow fixed width gunwhale.

Interesting though and it might inspire someone to produce something greater.

The next RS300 sailors who comments about "looks" or "form", cops a slap upside their head. ;-)

That's why I said form before function, not following.

Either way, I don't even think it is very good looking, let alone particuarly well designed.  Neither use nor ornament...

Think you have this the wrong way around... Form following function is where there is nothing in the design which has no function. If it was form following function it wouldn't have teak decks for sure.

Doesn't do it for me.  Form before function, very Italian.

Looks like a nice idea to me, but not quite right. Such things as the sharp deck edges and having the mast unsupported at deck level make me think it was put together by a fashion house, not a sailor.

Nope, me too. Teak decks with rubber caulking? Come on, no one has that much spare cash!
