All that was tried on model racing yachts in the 50's. I saw twin keels going down from the gunwhales, V keels and an arrangement not unlike the laser in the film. I also recollect a sort of tube with a bulb of lead in the middle. As a boy I thought all this was very "cool", only we were yet to invent cool. My enthusiasm was somewhat blunted by a man called Dickie Priest who designed ships propelors for Camel Laird, "Think of the drag my boy" said he.

It's taken at Grafham; I've seen them tow-testing it during the summer in no wind.  Dunno what they are trying to achieve mind....

Maybe, though it's a Cambridge company (didn't you notice the accents?)

I think the Laser is a test bed, they seem to want to develop it for yachts.

I'm not convinced by it- in one of their own diagrams there's a downward force on the leeward part of the "loop" when the boat's heeled, and on both parts if level!

and you thought sailign a foiling moth was wet, wading into waist depth just to right the boat, not sure how much you'd need to even float that thing.

There must be a theory behind it somewhere, to make up for all the extra wetted surface over a normal keel?  Any ideas? The fact it is on a Laser must just be as a test bed.

Probably a little cheaper than trying it out on an Open
60?

I don't think I'll be fitting one to mine though, launch
and recovery would be a nightmare even if anyone would
race with me.
