The W.Y.A have decided not to include multihulls in the 'Welsh Sailing Games' for the first time this September.  This Association is supposed to promote the virtues of sailing to everybody.  However, they have now taken to disciminating against two hulls.  This is one of the few times that I'm not proud to be Welsh.

This will wind quite a few people up, especially those who are trying to break the anti cat stigmatism which still exists.

How can they justify this??

Why the WYA and for that matter the RYA cann't understand that we are are still "sailors" even though we prefer two hulls is beyond me.  Their excuses that we need more water  or our boat handling isn't good enough is just totally wrong. I bet that Cats have less collisions on the race course than any other mono hull fleet (Yachts or Dinghies) because we have total respect for our actions and other competitors.  Unfortunately, because the piers within the governing bodies don't want to broadcast this fact or have no inclination to understand  Cat sailing we will always remain second best.

I think a fair number tof the Skiffies (49er's 12's cherubs etc) feel the same way.  It's not just us.  When I see people who openly don't like cats(Or skiffs), I just laugh at them, it is their fault if they have closed minds and miss out on all the fun !

The guys at WYA aren't mad - they will want all the entreis they can, providing it justifies the expense. How many entries were there in the Cat fleet at last years Games?

Unfortunately, I can only find 05  results and  six  cats  paid up and participated. This event should hace been run in North Wales last year as it is supposed to alternate between the North and South but I can't remember if it was.

Isn't this something for the magazine to investigate?

Surely the WYA would have to explain their decision to the sailing public?

Far too old to still be doing this......

Does excluding a class which only turned out 6 boats last time really need that much explaining?

So do they have keelboat classes? Paralympic classes? Model boat classes? I bet there are other parts of the sport excluded too.

This is the particular problem.  The Welsh Sailing Games is for any type of monohull from J105's to Junior Classes. Their flyer advertises Yacht Classes  as IRC, Sportsboats,J80 and New for 2006-PY fleet. Dinghy Class=Laser, Asymmetric, Monohull Handicap Junior Classes and Classes for 6 or more.
The sponsors logo is "Taking Sailing Forward In Wales" Maybe I will go and play with model boats as this is not exactly "sailing for all".
