Y&Y have created a new website in conjunction with ISAF, for people thinking about getting into our sport - www.newtosailing.com
Some of the content you may recognise as we have picked past magazine articles that are helpful, though we are tweaking these to be appropriate worldwide, not just in the UK. Let us know your views! And if you know anyone who needs information about trying sailing, send them the link. We'd love to get more people on the water! |

M**rosoft - testing!!! so I can't write Mic rosoft but can write IC what about MICR0SOFT (with a zero!) ____________________________________ Anyway, looks ok but agree its very blue but then it looks fine, a little basic but thats probably what is required. One thing though, it links to the forum, but all the posts are the wrong way up, so you have to read the bottom one first, surely it should be ther other way round? Edited by radixon |

ok so as I punter I went "where can I give this a go"
So I click on Try sailing "somewhere near to you". Then I have to select my continent then my country then I get told about the RYA then I link to the Y&Y club pages. I got bored clicking about 1/2 way thru and fell asleep! Can't it interogate my IP address and from that deduce I was in the UK? ALSO - does it make sense to link just to sailing clubs - surely links to RTE's would be more valuable - i.e. I want a 'taster hour' - turn up and pay my £20 quid and give it a go on a sunny day. Surely RTE's are betty placed for that type of punter than clubs - ok so there is now a cross-over, but try turning up at the local puddle club on a tuesday arvo - will the gate even be open... ok so now let's go to "on holiday!" - hmm links to a few stories / Y&Y articles about a very limited number of venues. What's the differnece between "dinghy cruising and yacht cruising" - surely the 'lear in the sun' bit should be rewritten a little and that be the 'landing page' for the 'on holiday" link. I also think it should be quicker/easier to get to the names of the operators - e.g. people might have been with Mark Warner skiing and want to use them for sailing too. Oh and when you go to the operators page it's out of date as crystal active beach has been closed and clients pushed to sunail instead. In terms of the holiday locations, then why not do a country type pick and then get a list of venues for that country - currently it looks like you can only go holiday sailing in Egypt, greece, turkey, balearics but there's got to be more places than that. Beginner boats doesn't seem to have any boats suitable for adults either. Why the 2.4m is in there, I have no idea - it's not exactly beginner - where does the instrructor go. Where the RS/Laser tupperwares so beloved by schools? I think it's good but more work should be done to make it that much better / usable Edited by laser4000 |

Bah! Seems our data is somewhat screwy. Certainly some of those 'singlehanders' are gonna be tough to handle.
Thanks for spotting that. RTEs (recognised teaching establishments) may not be appropriate since we trying not to concentrate on the UK, and want to help worldwide....but that does mean it's harder to provide detailed info. We will shortly be providing lists of clubs/schools worldwide will helps address the problem a bit. Similarly the list of classes is restricted slightly to avoid a UK focus. |
