Yes - and I guess you are right; none of the big boys would want to do it ... Shame though as I think it would be good to try and get some of the existing classes racing together to create bigger events and fleets ... Rick |

I don't think the manufacturers would risk not being the fastest design. But if it did work, it would be a brilliant platform for amateur builders and designers to get into the industry. |

Well, if anyone wants one, the N12 Big Issue (Loco Perro) shape was spot on for a spinnaker boat... fully battened rig and a 400ish size spinnaker would be awesome as a hiker - can lose all the lead too.
Cherubs and Scorpions arent really wide enough for my taste to be hiking boats, and although I cant really remember specifics I thought the NS14 hull rule was very restrictive? |

Have seen a Blaze with the winds fully extended, they go pretty wide! |

The NS rule is quite simple - I could understand it! Basically it has: max length, min weight, max overall beam, min waterline beam (at midships) max depth and a max actual sail area (split how you like). The only restriction is no 'hollows' in the section to cheat the minimum waterline beam measurement. Any new formula rule would really need the buy-in of the big manufacturers. I'm not sure exactly how, but I'm sure it can be done (maybe hull has to be rotomoulded, or set a minimum batch production etc??)

The Blaze as I have said before could be very cool with an assy. Bit like a singlehanded B14 (If maybe completely different hull and rig design) Anyone out there tried this Edited by Andrewst |

A friend looked at converting a B14 to a single hander by adding a trapeze, a self tacking jib and rearranging the kite to a chute, one string affair. It would be an awesome beast in the light stuff but in a breeze ?? After a capsise, B14s are pretty tough to righten with the kite in the drink with two crew and probably impossible with one but without the tramps maybe its ok. I think it would be better to use an RS 800 with massive wings.

I think A Cherub would be a very sensible starting point for a 12ft long assymetric dinghy. Mainly because they hav 55yrs of development behind them! |

I think thats a little unfair here. The fact is we are talking about building a 12ft dinghy with an asymetric. The cherub hapens to be a 12ft dinghy with an assymetric... comparisons are going to be drawn. |

I have single handed an 800 in a F1-2 and it built to a 3 at the end. It became quite a handfull towards the end due to the fact that i only weighed 60kg and the wings wern't fully out. Saying that, it wasnt much harder than single-handing the 29er, i think it would be a good fun boat, but why not use an MPS or 700? |
