I would suggest foot loops on the 29er. Not right at the back, but give enough room for the helms bum at the back, and put a foot loop just infront of that. From past experience, in big waves you need to be as far back and balanced. the Kite isnt big enough to lift the bow very far. Also, if you use twin tillers, then make sure there long enough so that when  you tack, the opposite tiller extension doesnt go straight through the foot loop! it happens alot if you have tiller extensions that are slightly to short! To stop the foot loops getting all bent, when trailing and all the covers are on, put a tennis ball under both foot loops! it makes them keep their shape and not get all bent and horrible!

In waves or flat water?  They're vey necessary in waves, for obvious reasons, but are also useful in flat water.  If you have footloops, get him hooked in, then tell him to straighten his back leg.  His shoulders will swing forward, and his righting moment will increase drastically.  Loads more power in the breeze. but you can't do it without loops.

yea, we had them, he just never felt the need to use them. then again almost all of our sailing (bar a few outings) were in relatively flat water.

Well next time it's breezy and flat, use them,  get him to get that back leg straight and you'll see how much more power you have.

It makes a difference, we use them on the lake as soon as theres enough breeze to really swing it down

After my wife had a little trip around the forestay in the 29er we put footstraps in.

Having 75kgs in the back of the boat did help keep the bow up though
