I didn't know where to post this, so here seems as good as anywhere!
I'm currently shifting from keelboat sailing to dinghy sailing, i will now need a wetsuit as i can't get away with just oilskins anymore! I am unsure whether to go for a short one or long one, any tips on this would be appreciated, also what sort of things do people tend to wear under or over wetsuits? Cheers in advance for any advice! |

depends if you will be a "hard" winter sailor and wear a wetsuit in the winter, then you will probaly either need a separate one in summer, ie short arms and legs and a steamer in winter
or just a summer sailor (and a drysuit in the winter) then obviously you just need a summer wetsuit hope that makes sense, dont worry if it doesn't not many people understand me ![]() |

Lycra shorts/Rash vest under wetsuit... Im packing in a couple of craft
thermal tops under a 'ronstan skiff suit' (long john) at the moment and
thats got me through the winter with just a spraytop over the top...
sailing quite active boats though.
Long/short... depends how likely you are to get wet, whether you need the extra protection of a full wetsuit and what the weathers like... |

If it's a hiking boat, you need Rooster hiking shorts (3/4 length) and add other bits depending on the temp. If you are trapezing, the trapezing boys can advise....

With hiking shorts they really are down to personal preference. Queensports provide the greatest batten support although arnt the comfyest. The magic marine (grey ones) are better for people like me who seem to get REALLY itchy from neoprene. And roosters and S.E.A seem to be fairly all round good choices, good support and fairly comfy. Not that i do any of that silly hiking stuff anymore. Doug |

i have a few wetsuits, i find that windsurfing wetsuits are great for trapezing cos they dont let any water in and if u are new to trapezing u are going to get very wet so a good buy. if hiking any wetsuit is fine genrally just go on what ever looks cool.
