More footage, this time in 15 plus knots @ Kurnell.
Here we have a stink boat split the spinnaker boats on a downwind. Tornado was on the inside of us and the crew was thrown off the boat when their boat became airborn, resulting in a capsize. http://www.badongo.com/vid/88888 Sweet downwind spinnaker run http://www.badongo.com/vid/88903 |

Is that a musto being over-taken by a Vortex? And then crossing behind the fleet of Vortex's?

Two of the Vortex with GPS were recorded doing 17.5 kts one race and 19.5 kts the next - no doubt not as fast as a Musto but not too shoddy in a F3. Oh and BTW Strawberry - you'll notice none off them were 'randomly flipping over' as your mothie mate Moving on, some footage of RS200s at XXXXX SC - seems to me a perfect illustration of why I like big lakes/the sea rather than gusty shifty ponds For example look at the gust the boat with the pink kite gets but the boat in front seems to miss. Nice nose dive too. NOTE the music is loud so if you're in the office turn the volume down http://www.noblemarine.co.uk/images/ripon.mpg Edited by Hector |

If you think about it makes sense that they should randomly tip over. The vortex through the centre will create a force in a vertically upwards direction. If the boat then heals, the force will be greater on one "hull" than the other. As speed increases the force will increase, and therefore the difference between the forces will increase. As this get's to a critical point the greater force on the windward hull (combined with the healing moment from the rig) will exceed the righting moment of the helm. It is also complicated by the fact that as the boat heals varies the difference in the forces will vary, and this can often be unpredictabe. However, I assume you sail a Vortex, and I don't, so I will take your word for it.
