Hi There

I need your advice, which is the best yachting foulies to go for? I would probably need something offshore/coastal. I have seen XM yachting clothing and It looks quite good for a reasonable price. Has anyone any experience with this make?

Thanks

Tom

You get what you pay for and if you are sailing regularly it is worth getting the best you can afford. People have mixed opinions of XM.

Bumble's suggestion of a wetsuit is not good advice. You don't want to be spending days in a wetsuit.

Depends if you desperately want breathable gear. I've got Gill non breathables which I think were the same price or slightly more than the XM breathable stuff. I chose it becuase it felt better fabric, the XM stuff feels like thin nylon (this was 2 or 3 years back though). Mine were £130 for the suit (Southern Cross) and they've been fantastic for me, I don't race or even sail yachts much but I have done some long trips and they've been fine then.

I've used breathable and non-breathable. Breathable are definitely more comfortable in certain situations (overnight sailing or working enough to sweat, not raining or heavy spray). Whether you think they are worth the money is a personal choice.

Does anyone know of a manufacturer that does genuinely large sizes. The last pair of hi-fit wet gear trousers had to go back to get a gusset fitted as they ripped between the legs first time on. Most suppliers seem to stock no larger than XL, occasionally XXL.
