They do look a nice boat but there aren't many in the UK and as far as I know there is no organised class or class racing here.

Not yet many in the Uk stefan. Senor Gabbioano would be better going to Keil Week. There are, wait for it, 87 Beneteau 25s in Germany.

There are another 100 at least around France, Spain and Italy and I believe 20 odd in our lad's home country

I don't think it is long before the Farr Platu built by Beneteau becomes an EU J24 for the next decade.

Basically, they are a poor mans mumm 30...and demon on most handicap if you are a decent sailor.

They've been around for quite a few years now. If they were going to happen in the UK, I suspect they would have done long ago. Nothing wrong with them at all; they just came along 6 months too late when the fairly comparable (but substantially cheaper) 707 was already taking off here.

SB3 is the new J24, I think.

If you want to talk about local boats for local people, then yes there is a boat which presents challenging OD sports fun and goes up to pro level- the 1720- which you owned?

The 707 is even more of a local boat for local people.

I'm talking about international competition which is exciting and reasonable in cost for the boat.  The J24 used to have at least some good eurodisney fleets.

The 707 is the sonata of the 90s.

If people wanna go mix it with soem very good contental sailors then it has to be melges or the platu, and the platu is cheaper

Not sure that many do though. We towed a keelboat around Europe for a couple of seasons and enjoyable as it was, it took a lot of time and money.

Home in UK next week- save me the suspense-

what is a snot box for the naughties then?  Does it plane or do the rolies like the ubiq' snotty?

Reckoned on the 707 being an actual replacement.

what about an Impala for the 00s- a far superior bit of kit to the s'rag.

Platu is nice to sail with some lovely control features like a jib cunningham and jib cars which actually are adjustable. One major event win and a couple of other races this season against things like j109s and IMX40s
