As I understand it this is a common problem with B14s. I really think standing on the deck is a bad idea. I know the crew has to get on there in light winds but when he does he should be on his arse so as to spread the load. I think the beams are badly designed: 1. they should be further back to where the crew will sit and, 2. they should be bonded to the topsides to feed the forces into the hull. Ideally there should be a strut running from the centre of the beams to the hog so that the forces are transferred to a stiff part of the hull. They should at least have been bonded at the inner ends to the stiffener down the centre line. |

I had the foredeck on 698 strengthened (professionally) but its coming apart. It appears that one of the beams has pulled away a chip from the foredeck- if i press on the foredeck, just this small chip moves.
It also makes some very alarming cracking noises when stood on. The boat builder says the deck is delaminating and he needs to replace it ![]() This is where the beams have been placed: ![]() What the beams look like: ![]() The cracks: (it's really hard to take pictures through the inspection hatch... ![]() The chip: (About the size of a fingernail) ![]() Any suggestions? Ideas so far include epoxying some carbon tape underneath it, moving the beams back, and also jumping through it and claiming on the insurance ![]() |
