Congrats to Bryony on a fab result, felt really realy sorry for Nick...

Seemed a very duff decision by the PRO to shorten to one round - if you watched the boards going upwind in the mens they had more 'planing moments' than the ladies..the mens race finised on 19 minutes, the ladies went for 31..

Not sure the 'downwind slalom' worked from a spectator perspective in marginal planing either - can't they drop that depending on the wind strength?

I wasn't sure what happened on the last leg ... Dempsey rounded behind the FRA who finsihed 4th, Dempsey was 7th.

So the FRA took a place on the last leg and Dempsey dropped one to BRA.

How does that happen on a reach to the finish? or did I miss somthing.

Very short race; another lap would have been nice.

I didn't spot how he dropped ESP or BRA either..but there were massive speed differences between planing and non-planing..perhaps he just didn't quite get the groove on...

I imagine he went low, trying anything to overtake, no point in following and therfore definetly gaining nothing - he had to try something, but it didn't pay off :o(

TV didn't cover the last leg in a way you could understand what was happening.

Had they panned out and shown the whole leg we would know.

The speed differences were huge when they got going. Air rowing looks pretty hard work ...

I think that when Nick saw where the Israeli was he realised it was game over and stopped pumping, which let Brazil and someone else through - you could just about see him cruising into the finish on the footage.

BTW, can someone get Simmonds an abacus or something?? He was having a shocker in the women's race trying to explain who was in the medals at each mark. I know it gets a bit complicated, but he makes so many mistakes it's no wonder non-sailors can't understand what's going on!

I didn't see the live footage this morning but I hear Bryony let slip a very naughty word in the post-race interview which went out live to the nation - oops!

I think your right, I watched the whole race and it definately looked like he was cruising to the finish knowing that he couldn't win a medal.

49er 531 & 5000 5025 and a mirror(now gone to mirror heaven)!
