Well, the RAF has L2000s as their training boat, for teaching Level 2 upwards, and I think it's a tremendous family boat. We tend to be a little on the "hefty" side, but there's still plenty of room for 2 students and an Instructor. They're forgiving, but also have the ability to give a good thrill in a blow. I did the Inlands a couple of years ago, and the racing at the front of the fleet is at a pretty high standard, with good battles ensueing throughout the fleet. I really do rate them Don't know if it's of any help, but we'll be selling 3 good examples shortly. |

If you've long legs and arms and solid hiking shorts then a L2000 might be comfortable. But personally, when hiking over the narrow edge of the gunnals, I find the footstraps and jib cleats far too far down in the boat. Trouble is, it's designed as a "sit in" boat, but you have to "sit out" to sail it properly and there isn't much to sit out on. But as a modern enterprise etc replacement - it's damned good really. And a miracle doesn't have an asymetric, and asymetrics are FUN. Still like the RS200 better. |

As usual with Laser boats, there are certain things you need to do to your brand new boat to make it raceworthy. First among these is to put shims under the jib and control line cleats which are, as Nick A suggests, too low. Conversely, you need to raise the mainsheet rachet block as the cleat is too high and can't be adjusted. Then maybe a Dyneema gennaker tack line... Still, it's better than the Laser 2, where I think I ended up with list of 20-odd 'things to do to my new boat'... |

For bimbles on the 2000- Spinlock on the kite halyard. Simple mod, and essential. With the stock cleat, I find the halyard recleats VERY easily.

FRP miracle with evolution sails looks the business. I was at a open meeting a few weeks back and two 6ft men were racing and ended up in the top 5 i think. Room isn't a problem with aft sheeting and new deck layout. A 6 week build time isn't bad and it is designed to your speck unlike a laser which as said before requires 'mods' before being completly practial. Why don't you look at what is sailed near you and have a test sail

That was one option and indeed my first thought but on a tight schedule
and there seems to be a little issue with building at the moment. If there is one for sale anywhere? |
