There is also a crew forum on the cowes week website Normally there are noticeboards at the regatta centre in Cowes. Edited by MonkeyBoy |

If I only had a little humility, I'd be perfect.

There is a campsite at Gurnard Bay which at a guess is a couple of miles away. People also used to camp at East Cowes marina but I'm not sure that is still possible. Wouldn't be too peaceful either, but I don't suppose that's what you are going for.

I've skippered a boat at Cowes Week several times (not this year!) and if there is a skippers' meeting, it's news to me. Think about it: 1000-odd boats: where exactly are you going to hold a meeting? So: try class crew lists and bulletin boards e.g. 707s have a web-based crew list, SB3s have a very active bulletin board. You can also advertise yourself on the Cowes Week website and in the regatta office. Finally, try walking around the marinas and asking. With a little determination you will definitely get a sail. Where do you plan to stay? Finding accommodation is a lot harder than finding a boat to sail on. Sleeping onboard is only a option for a minority of boats. |

My friend and I are planning to go to Cowes week
this year. However, we may well not be able to find a boat to crew on... Having heard that if you just turn up at the skipper's meeting - you'll usually get a race from people needing crew, we're planning to go anyway (obviously not ideal as we were looking to be on a competitive yacht - which probably won't be short of crew). Has anyone done this before - will it work?? Should have got something organised much earlier, but these exams have been tough!! |
