Of course you can. But best to shout at her under your breath nice and quietly so as she can't hear you. This method of shouting protects you from physical injury from either a frying pan or rolling pin. |

I shout at a lot of people in French. It's a mark of affection - you're a true friend when you've had your regular dose of French Don't believe it's all rude... Some of it is quite benign, but it sounds so much better in French! |

Actually a friend of mine got in a bit of bother at Uni over this one - he was spending a year in Paris and started seeing a girl from Mauritius...one evening, after a pleasant meal and a good bottle of wine he was feeling particularly affectionate called her his "petit choufleur". The reaction he got was excellent and all was well until the following morning when she asked him what time they would call her parents to give them the good news... |

He should have dated a French girl. She probably would have laughed and told him she'd call him one of these days... Trust my bilingual experience: words of endearment (and swear words too |

As I only have school boy French, I worked out Petit/Small and Fleur/Flower but I had to use babelfish for chou. Is "my little cabbage flower" a term of endearment in France or did something get lost in translation! |

Cauliflower! Chou-fleur means cauliflower... I've never been called like that, and I strongly advise everyone NOT to try!!
