Doug.. I don't have a kite!!

...which is why I'm thinking of getting a new boat - can't trapeze this one down wind in less than an F4.

Had lots of fun in a laser 3k on a Nielson holiday - very nice hanging off the wire with the kite up. The resort reps had broken the only buzz so I've still to give one a try.  Tempted by a contender, despite lack of kite - but where would my wife sit on the occassion she wants a sail??

hows about single handing a 29er, is a youth boat so one hmm older/heavyer sailor should be able 2 handle it plus it has a managable kite and an open layout for easy of tacking etc.

might be worth a try?

yer the 29er would be cool but when it gets really windy you wont be able to furl the jib like u can on the other boats and it most probily wont suit your wife when you do take her out in it!

Also my club has this wierd rule that bars fast monohulls (except for a trial fleet of 6 RS800s), despite allowing a couple of F18 cats and some hurricane 4.9s.  In fact even the slowest of the cats is faster than all but those 6 RS800s...... I digress,

anyway no MPS or RS700 much as I'd like one - and it would scare my family silly.

Considering a 29er - bit tippy though and very short of seats!

Laser 2, 3k or Buzz I can still sail in company now and again.

I think your weight is probably going to be the critical factor. I'm about 12.5 stone and have tried both the Buzz and a 3000 in up to f3. Of course ability is also important. With a bit more practise I might manage in a f4, but don't think any more than that. Also on the capsize recovery front my Buzz tends to go inverted in stronger winds (probably due to the wet stuff getting into the mast) - and I struggle on my own to right from inverted, so I'd bear that in mind.

The buzz mast is supposed to be sealed so water can't get in. The idea was to reduce the chances of the boat inverting.
