So ross the cherub class is proud of a boat that was derived from the latest 14 design? Thats quite funny really. But no match for FS im sure |

I have amused memories of a 14 sailor lecturing me in penultimate days of how much better Cherubs would be if they looked like 14s. Now all 14s look like Cherubs, so maybe he was wrong... Paul B draws a sweet boat and we all look at each other's stuff... You might find this interesting... http://www.devboats.co.uk/99interview.html. From a fairly cursory glance the GT560 shape doesn't seem quite as similar to the 14 as is widely advertised. This is not suprising... The Slug design is now, what ten years old, its lasted astonishingly well, but was designed for what is to all intents and purposes a different class. Something would be badly wrong if it couldn't be improved on... Flat Stanley, on the other hand, is based on a 1976 design, or about equivalent to 1986 14 design because the Cherubs were so far ahead back then... |

Is Gavin Simms building a new Cherub this winter? I've seen some drawings of the design, but that was a while back and guess he may have updated since then. Nice looking lines on Banshee btw, but that bow looks mighty fine (and possibly a little concave?) |

Gav doesn't currently have a garage so that puts his building on hold! Would be good if he did though!

That's an understatement! I was racing against Pete and Roz in the GT60 at the Weston Skiff Open in an 800 last weekend, and upwind they regularly had pace and height on us. Just amazing. They lost out a bit (and I mean a 'bit') downwind, but might as well been sailing a different class to the other Cherubs (and a different league to the 12ft Skiffs as well, for that matter!) irrespective of Pete being a top class sailor. We finished in the top 3 overall so I'd like to think we were sailing the 800 reasonably close to it's potential! If the new Cherubs are as fast as Pete can sail the GT60 (as well made and reliable), that can't be a bad thing for you Cherub-ites. Edited by hum3 |

The GT60 has a MASSIVE (I14 style) board which slows it down downwind. Atum Bom at the nationals just pulled away downwind from the GT60 in the windier stuff.

Couldn't that be solved with lifting the board some at the windward? |
