I'd heard 920 as the start off PY for the model shown at the show.
I can't see it being as fast as a modern well sailed 505 with its newer
monster kite, straight out of the box, there again it is lighter and with an
assym cut to the kite who knows maybe it'll depend on the course didn't
someone else say the rig looked bigger?

But regardless of this, my lot will set whatever handicap they feel
comfortable with, the buggers quickly reset our RS500 from 975 to 965
when early on in the season we won too many races, not I might ad due
to anything other than the incompetence of everyone else rather than any
excessive boat speed or skill set we had, at that point they hadn't quite
got to grips with elementary stuff like starting at or even close to the
same time the start gun sounds..

They're quick learners though and now some of the more seasoned vets
have returned as the regularity and standard of the racing has improved.

So later in the season although better at sailing it, we struggled to sail to
965 and note it's now been reset to 972 which is probably nearer the
truth or our boat is clapped out..

But marketing strategy?

If it were being aimed at the wide world with some muscle a la RS then
yep I'd be the first to agree that sub 900 would give it the youf/tearaway
appeal, but reality is it's aimed at the club sailor, so if it were me I'd fit it
with a full Cartridge belt, Sombrero, unshaven and with an extremely
dodgey moustache... 950? Bring it on

I'd be crying my eyes out if I had an Alto and they gave me a PY of anything near or under 900.

The swingy pole thing, looks good but I'm not sure how many times you'll need it.  The only time I have felt that I wanted to be able to square the pole back was in the Excel Docks race (where there literally just wasn't enough width to be able to sail angles).  The 5'oh just squared the pole and ran DDW with its kite.

You have to consider that there was a reason that the top designers have dropped the idea.

Well i very much doubt that it's gonna be as fast as the 600 upwind but should have good vmg downwind. I would guess 930-940 ish.

That sounds like the perfect description of a Cherub to me.

I happen to know that there is one for sale atm .

nah - only teasing GRF.

We received quite a lot of traffic on the 505 stand during the show.  Seemed that some comments along the lines suggested were coming from somewhere (although that's a bit of a common issue with the 505).  Actually don't think it was paul or the designer, as they are both avid 505ers themselves.....just teasing.

I'd guess that if you started c.930/925, then you would be able to see where the performance curve is across the range.  My thoughts were that it will probably perform better than that in "average conditions" about 10-12 knots.  But we can onyl wait to see.

Obviously the carbon rig is designed to help it flex the power out of the rig when the breeze steps up.

Cheers,

Chas

LOL yeah, i mean if there was ever a crap boat designed it has to be the cherub. in fact can you even say it was designed???? lol. I mean what prat decided to stick a sharp end onto an oppie and then stick a stupid amount of sail area to it, add some wings on the foils, get ur epoxy and carbon matt out and slap that on until it looks like a ten year old made it, then take it sailing..........blown the sh*t out of the boat after ten mins, bring it home, add yet more carbon to it...... sod it might as well add a few more metres of sailcloth while ur their as well and hack a hole in the deck (its gettin a bit heavy with all that carbon being added) and finally tow it back down the sc (on ur lightweight carbon trolley.......as the tesco man says "every little helps") take it out for another ten mins and then spend another 2 weeks repairing it lol
