im assuming possbily incorrect that the rs800 all up weight of 110kgs is before you take into account all the weights that go in front the weight equalisation system so if your light your boats gets soemthing like another 25kgs. coz they are bloody heavy.

The cost is immaterial if you can afford it anyway and as for the ns14 being 14kgs lighter than a i14 is that a minimum hull weight then? as a certain hiking class namely the phantom dreamt up this minimum weight years ago thinking it would never be achieveable but they managed it and now you need a epoxy boat as there are the only ones down to weight. class rules means the i14 has to be 78kg and as mentioned before you want the weight in the right place hence why carrying lead is better.

Thats a bit clever..  Do you ever use it? How much weight is it? Could be useful for those light wind days so you don't have to move so far forward its uncomfortable! My lead is fastened on just under the gunwhale in line with the mast. Not sure if thats the best place to have it or not.. Or if it has to be there under class rules. (actually might be line with the shroud plates... can't remember!)

Do we ever use it, umm not really !! if i'm honest! Some class rules stipulate it has to be fixed i think it is 10-15 kg but i dont know! we usually just have it all the way forward!

Yeah, Neal g has a point. Not quite 25kg extra, but you could carry up to another 15kg's depending on your weight!

If its a 49er, thats not corrective weight, its a round bar that the shroud plates are screwed in to.

im assuming those correctors are removed as the boat becomes heavier with age?

I assume so too? Not sure since I only got the boat in October, but I expect thats the reason. The fair them down bellow minimum wieght and then add weight correctors so i guess thats the reason... So they can always keep the boat light.

Don't get me wrong, I have sailed 200s and 400s a lot, so I know RS don't make light boats, but I was just trying to dispel the myth that I14s are light.  They aren't - bu they could be.  When the I14s merged with the Aussie 14ft skiffs, the Aussies very gratiously agreed to increase the weight of their boats to match the heavy I14s.  Slowly but surely, the I14 weight is dropping back to the weight the Aussies always had them at before!  I am sure there are many people who do not see the sense in building with carbon and nomex (very significantly increasing the build cost), only to add 14kg of lead.  It may give the absolute ultimate in performance (better not to have to add the lead though!), but most people could not justify the price - hence why RS make their 800 from 'worse' materials, for less than half the price.

All NS14s weigh in at 64kg, it isn't hard to do as they use low rig tension.  Most carry a few (approx 4kg) of lead as they are too light.  This has the advantage that you can take some out as the boat gets heavier over time (due to repairs etc), or if the rules were to change (which is unlikely at present).
