I am about to replace the  Mylar slot gasket on my wooden Phantom. There are five video/textual websites that give advice on this subject - RS,  Rooster, West Country Boat Builders, Draycote Water SC and McNamara. Two say the two halves of the gasket should overlap, and three do not, two advocate use of double sided adhesive tape and the rest do not (one vehemently). Does anyone out there have any strong opinions on this? George Morris Phantom 903     Weta 117

I think if you use a mylar gasket the normal plan is to glue it on and slice along the midline to create the hole for the board. If you use sailcloth then it's fitted as a strip on either side with an overlap - not as streamlined, but lasts much better.

Suggested reading is "Mike on Gaskets" on the Wayfarer website somewhere (Google it) - Mike Macnamara explains how to fit them.
