Good winds.

Anyone can claim other IDs. Which ones are you claiming?
My point stands, it is not for you to declare this forum dead and it’s poor form for you to use it to promote a competing community you have created.

Old Timer - It is precisely your type of toxic response to a genuine comment that makes this forum not a nice place to be. You may not agree that this forum is dead but everyone is entitled to their viewpoint and aggressive responses like yours really don’t help. All he was doing was giving an alternative place to hang out. You either go there or you don’t. Your choice. But your response was completely inappropriate. Play nice or don’t play at all.

What is toxic about calling someone with a post count of 6 for using this community to promote their own competing on-line community; and then declaring this one dead ...

I'd say that is poor form unless he sought the permission of the owner of this site to promote his Facebook group? In which case I take it back.

I'm not commenting about the future of this place just pointing out that using it to promote your own competing community isn't really cricket ...

Re iGRF above

Facebook is hilarious, nay despicable, in that they're sanctimonious over postings made that don't comply with their view of the world, but they totally, absolutely encourage the relentless stream of snake-oil scam adverts plus spamming <expletive-deleteds> trying to sneak into every user-group to hawk their fake rubbish.

I'm an admin on the RS100 FB group; the only thing that takes any of my time is managing the fake accounts trying to trojan-horse their way in with dodgy t-shirt ads or whatever.

Critical mass works both ways  - without dramatic changes, I can foresee the point where FB reaches a downward tipping point, and users desert on masse, ruined by greed and negligence. Can't wait.

Meantime, welcome back Graeme, just save the misplaced PYAG obsession and paranoia for SA

Ironically it was a year ago almost to the day when things dissolved into the realms of the unnecessary and it was a robust discussion over the 505 and wether or not a more modestly equipped boat to a price point might be more effective than my opinion which was the Alto could have done exactly that. Naturally my 'foible' of blaming the PYAG came into play and then for some reason and I can't honestly remember why 'trans' issues came into play, these day they seem to have trumped Godwins law in bringing discussion to an end. I think it was the ID known at the time as G****cat who forced my hand so I left him to it and since then there have been no controversial discussions, it turns out he flounced anyway. However as I said in my delayed post on page seven, without controversy there can be 'no-one wrong on the internet' to keep us keyboard warriors up all night. So we look elsewhere. Now if you think fb is an appropriate place better think again, you get to go to fb jail if you so much as breath controversial comment for example involving pies and keys. Truth is as I previously explained this place was a garden of peace and love compared with many forums I've visited over the twenty odd years I've been involved in Astroturfing, trolling or simply amusing myself with banter, so I would be really sad to see it go and I really hope whatever Mark has up his sleeve to replace, rebuild, renew or simply overhaul continues. Now in support of Salcombe pirate we met at the Forum open where I also met many folk who posted here at the time and it's a shame it didn't become an annual event. It was he that gave you the 'Fuller Number'he's a really nice and clever guy in real life and in fact I'm probably not the total t**ser that I may appear to be here. Actually meeting and getting to know folk is the perfect antidote to any anger that may be generated by place like this, you get to know if the opponent of your views is a dick or not, like any bar, pub or social meeting place, that's what's missing.

While I don't think that there is any doubt that this forum is not what it was, I think that, in typical forum fashion, there is some rather overwrought keyboard warrioring going on.
At the very least the forum contains a lot of good, searchable, information and is a suitable place for asking questions and seeking advice.
It maybe that there is not at present a critical mass of mates so that banter and gossip can thrive but I can't see that any of the alternatives are really buzzing.

I sort of agree with both points of view . Salcombepirate HAS posted a lot on here over the years but he  has been a little full on trying to get the word out about ‘ The Pin End , not that bothers me.
I wish his fb page all the best but I haven’t found much of interest so far , unless you are interested in GRF being GRF .  Smile
