exactly this   - there is the still the aspect of the  coming out  of thesquad system into being a 'good'  adult sailor  in terms of support andcoaching ( and possibly opportunities if not  in awell paid work  or a hired gun )

They also have the 'Topaz', they are in effect admitting 'Aero' is a better adult boat.

Do Topper organise the event, or is it the Class Association? Topper may nopt have that much say. If RS are offering x UKP in extra sponsorship and Topper don't want to match...
And I really don't think even Topper would consider the Topaz to be a significant choice for Topper National competitors.

Is the Topaz a 'class'?
Does it have a class association? any class racing?

I would imagine the number of people who've attended a Topper Nationals and then 'progressed' to a Topaz is precisely zero.
Topaz is a fine enough product, a great beginner's boat but it doesn't really compete with ILCA or Aero.

Topper's own materials sell the Topaz   ,especially as a singlehander  as a teaching / fun boat that can race ...

No one is suggesting Topaz is the better boat, I can't see Topper going out of there way to agree, "sorry the Topaz or any other single hander we sell is totally unsuitable, go for a Laser or similar". They have a large range of boats and cats, seems strange to have a rival single hander at one of their events.
