Sorry to disappoint you but the Endeavour entries are for selected classes only, there are so many classes which hold a 'nationals' with 5 boats  Wink. The year I did it they got desperate because there were a lot of multiple class champions and big classes didn't reply so they got down to the Comet singlehander and the ISO but I reckon you'd need something really horrendous to happen before the Comet Duo got the call.....  Big smile

Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't think any of our lot, myself included, has any aspiration to do the Endeavour.....even if we did get the call.

Now this really made me chuckle. Very tongue in cheek, I am sure. Seven entries all from the home club sailing on a smallish lake near Kettering.

We have three Duos in our Club's hire fleet (Perfect for the job). If they run it next year and actually accept entries from other Clubs, it could be a great craic to attend, particularly as it is just down the road from us and it looks like a nice little Club.

It’s very very tongue in cheek. Lol It’s a running joke within the D-zero class and that there is a multiple comet duo world champion in their fleet . It’s an open meeting so i am sure there wouldn’t be a problem entering.
Cransley is a lovely club full of friendly people, it where  my better half did a Comet open a few years ago . It’s only just off the A45 but you feel like your in the middle of the countryside .
It’s very similar feel to our club but with 4x the membership and 5x the amount of water  LOL

If it was just a little closer , I would join it in a minute .  Smile

I certainly think the venue has to be good to justify the travelling now. Needs to have accommodation that is cheap, which generally means camping or somewhere to park the expensive van (I'm in the tent, haven't got a van). Parking onsite would be good though appreciate a lot of seaside venues don't have that, but the way local councils are bangin up the prices recently anything more than a one day event starts to rack up the costs even further. Even one day events are costing over £100 now and when theres a family to feed, house & clothe means away sailing is taking a big back seat.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Some people go to opens, just to sail at different places.. I'm not talking about big class events, but club regattas..
For instance we've several people over the years come for a holiday on the broads and take in Horning regatta.

For an outside dinghy entrant, that's four 1 hour races a day for 5 days, Monday to Friday. Though you might qualify for the odd extra trophy race ( there are up to 4 extra trophy races each day) such as the Serviceman's and ex Serviceman's trophy (women included).
There are also classes for keelboats, and yachts..

Last years entry fee... £1 per race. Also every night there is a function, no fees as such , but if food is on there is  charge for that.. I'll be there for that and the prior club members only weekend and I doubt I'll break £100 though of course I have my own accomodation..
This years regatta 1st to the 5th of August..

Here's last years regatta video https://youtu.be/GGCZ_AeyB3M
(PS the dinosaur is this years Commodore)

it's great for turn-up high octane windsurfing as where else do you get that kind of flattish expanse?

Can't say it would be an appealing place to spend anything longer than an overnight to justify the drive.  It's probably even less appealing than Calshot, and that takes some beating in the dumps stakes.

If driving that far into the SW, then frankly there are SO many nicer options if a class can secure the venue.

The trouble with WPNSA in many ways is its about as far away from Weymouth Bay as you can get within the harbour and makes for a pretty long day on the water. One thing we've learned over the last few years is that 4 hours is about where most people want to be. An hour out and back again seriously impinges on this.

Ive not sailed there yet, I would like to try it and have only heard good things about the race management. The odd exception is to be expected!

The guys that were sailing Fireballs in the 90's are now 25+ years older and the younger generation are - with one or two exceptions - sailing something else. The Enterprise has gone through the same thing, though its maybe coming back a bit at championship level it's still best described as hanging on at open meeting level, certainly in the midlands.

The post about WPNSA is interesting, it seems people absolutely love it or simply cant stand it. One overwhelming thing in its favour is race management standard and equipment, for which you pay a premium. There just doesnt seem a happy medium between the facility which some dont like and the members club with often the odd race management quirk.

Well at least you get a chance to have a beer (albeit in a plastic mug) with your old mucker Bill B.

Whilst WPNSA has excellent Race Management, they rarely seem prepared to race in Weymouth Bay, but I guess that this is often a class committee decision.

The plastic glasses can be ameliorated by a visit to the Cove.  And the Heights offers an excellent breakfast, phone them for their best deal.
