I don't some how think many of the commentators here are the target market -  and where do they go next with their comments  if the design does go as well as its looks ?  Chewing on wasps comes to mind.   A healthy market usually has more than one or two suppliers after all.....  Wink

Healthy markets like Windows or Android or Apple?

I strongly suspect this is not at all targetted at UK amateur club sailors, our first involvement with it might well be reading about 100 boat regattas full of top sailors in the sunshine.   I have no stake in it, but I'm interested in the technology of it, how well will the thing work? and also I believe in OD racing and think we probably need a new class that serves a range of people a bit better than the *eros. whether this is it, I don't know, but it's time Mr Kirby's magnum opus was moved into the vintage and retro section.

160 plus sailors mainly under 25 enjoying Mr Kirby’s  magnum opus for a third weekend in a row, still live, kicking and flourishing

Personally Mike, I’d rather chew a wasp than buy a boat (or anything else) from someone who, granted a monopoly, then decided not to pay that grantee their royalties for 10 years was it? (and probably other suppliers too).

What’s healthy about that as a business ethic?

We have plenty of suppliers of new single handers I’d sail, although I’m saving a Solo until my 4th qtr-century at the earliest, obvs

One thing I noticed on the pictures from the show, the locking clips for the wings appear to be 'quick release' toggles from a bike wheel, black anodised aluminium, hopefully will be stainless on production models, going to corrode in the sea else.

The point being made seems to be  a 'like' or 'not' one in relation to the supplier .... but what about the product ?  .. If someone else made it would the product be better or not ?  The Laser / ILCA / whatever thing is a corporate nightmare and tale of how NOT to do stuff at every level - yes we know all that as well !     I'm not in favour of the supplier for what's its worth either  .. but then I dislike other boats because of the politics in background (occasionally) involved elsewhere as well.  I'm more interested in the boat design and its characteristics .. and please note I'm NOT in the market for a 'new whatever' anyway ( ....I get my more recent kicks from a Shrimper 19 as much as dinghies these days ..yes really !)..... Mike. I should be LP target consumer. I am retired, I have spare disposable income. I want a good quality Una rigged 14 foot singlehander similar to a laser for club racing , but with out the design flaws.
I made my choice last year between the aero and the zero and am more than happy with my choice of the d-zero.
Why would I now choose the Pornstar .?
It’s manufacturer is owned by a man with out any business morals.
The hull shape looks ‘ clumsy’ at best .
The rig looks like a version of the ARC rig designed for LP LASER and that  always looked s@@t .
If it goes as well as it looks , it’s a DOG !
Why would I even consider buying one ?
Plus re a successful market needing more than one builder . I don’t remember the Blaze having more than one builder when you owned the rights ?

Any chance we could have a little side bet on this ? If LP can get a 50 boat regatta with some big names in within the next year , I will buy you a bottle of your choice. If they don’t you buy me a bottle of half decent champagne. What do you say ?  Smile

I'd say gambling is not my vice of choice.
Also I'm talking about what LP will be trying to do, not forecasting whether they will be successful. For every good plan that succeeds like the 49er, there are often several equally good plans that fail.
Also, not sure I said anything about within a year? What's obvious though is that I'm not seeing any marketing aimed at UK club sailors.
