Now according to my little computer formula, that boat should come in around 1050-5 ish with the 8.5 rig.

I bet the b**tards give it 1030-5 or less.. just watch.

Can't have something coming to disrupt Laser or RS sales.

Any successful handicap system should offer some protection to the established classes with data against them. It is annoying if a new boat gets an easy handicap and then cleans up for the years it takes to slash it down.

Really? When did that happen?

When did a new boat get an easy handicap straight out of the box?

Most easy handicaps are when slow old tubs like the old Pantom and the current Wayfarer get lipstick lite builds to cheat the system.

The EPS got 1009 didn't it? It was 1024 by the time I got mine, whilst the Blaze and Phantom had 1046&7.

The D Zero got caned it should have been around 1050
The Aero 7 not too dissimilar is 1065

Dzero py is about right in my view at 1029.( and as more very average sailors join the class like me, it should go out to the 1035/1040 range ).  It’s definitely 70 points faster than a Laser/ILCA.

After all it’s 30cm longer , with a square metre larger sail than a Aero 7 .

I think that's the point, they don't... And I suspect most manufacturers recommend an optimistically low handicap number so the punters don't think their new baby is a slow old dog

Personally I think the Farr 3.7 is a fun better class with its single handed trapeze design

I didn't take a look around that one...wished I had now.
How are the wings attached? I loved my EPS when I had it but I pulled the wings off at least twice as the sliding track just pulled out when capsizes got lairy.

Apart from the name this one looks at least worth a try out at some point.
Was there any talk of demo-boats / demo-days during any chats that anyone had?

Unfortunately, the Farr 3.7 doesn't really exist as a 'class' in the UK. And I don't think it ever will. For everyday sailing in UK clubs, the whole design concept of fixating on some notional hull length that basically 'short' is really not a great way to start. It's always going to be a niche thing for people not looking for proper racing. Anyone seeking meaningful racing in a trapeze singlehander would be much better off with a 600/700/MPS/Contender.                                               There's a big difference between pleasing boat design theorists and  providng great racing on the water. If you csn't make the quality racing happen nobody will care about any new class, however 'good' it is. I think these days it's pretty hard to make class racing appear from nowhere, which is why I'm curios to see what LP will do. In the UK the Aero, Zero and H2 have done OK in the last few years, perhaps filled what market need there was? I don't know about the rest of Europe, but I suspect the Por*star's future will be determined there and not in the UK?

Well naturally I'd be the first to agree with you, but sadly despite the best efforts of Darren is it? So far there are only a few of us owners, in fact Dave Barker a once keen proponent gave me an excellent demo of his new raspberry ripple H2.

Mine is on sale, it's an excellent up specc'd example with all carbon decks better (bigger)sail, but no offers so far which is a shame because it is a fun boat to sail, but even I've caved in to conform in a Contender.

It's a sad world for none conformists, everybody hates us.

No, I had a very good demonstration of how to depower it by somebody of similar build, a guy called Dave Barker, I'm trying to get my pal to buy one, rang him up when I got back. I've always thought it was a good boat, the way it's set up to get back upright after a capsize, even demonstrated righting lines and how you stand in them, never seen that shown before. Convinced me I probably could actually sail it in a blow even despite that horrendous fathead sail. The rig rakes (I like that) the controls easily flatten the sail and you can see the top ready to twist off, the only mystery left and I won't ever work that out without sailing one is why it doesn't out perform a Phantom upwind in light to medium winds. But that won't matter to him, it's his knees that get abused in the Phantom and it cures that issue.
I'd love to check out the foil, wondering if that might be the upwind problem, like the Blaze, they sometimes f**k up the chord in an effort to make sure it goes up inside the centreboard case then say oh it's a planing foil, which of course is BS.
