Won't be going this year, the V1.0 of anything new is a disaster..

I've been on a course at Farnborough, a few hundred yards from the venue.. The place is Traffic jam city, long queues every morning and evening, though that was during the week.

As for time to get there, from Norfolk you're are talking of  an extra 50 miles each way so that's an hour without the nightmare that can be the M25. So taking the allowance for the journey up to at least 4 hours. Making it a very long day..

I can see the attraction for those carting equipment and boats to the show, much better access.. However other than not walking up that darned hill, I can see no attraction for the punter..

Mrs Grumpycat and I have been regular visitors to the Dinghy show for the last few years on the Saturday because it makes a great day out.
We live in Coventry , so it straight onto the m1 and it’s a easy drive to ally pally . Get there early, look round the show in morning , then have a gentile stroll up the hill to the shops to have some lunch. Then a nice relaxed drive home.
Farnborough doesn’t really have the same pull for a day out lol. Plus you have to play with the m25 . Think we will give it a miss this year but I still really hope the show is a success .

If you are planning to play on the M25 to get to Farnborough from round here, you need to upgrade your Sat Nav.

Just ordered our tickets. Planning to go on Saturday and meet up with old friends we haven't visited for a while who live nearby afterwards. Really looking forward to it this year.

I haven't been for a few years but for me the point of going was not looking at boats, but arranging to meet some mates for a few beers and then bumping into more mates and having beers with them too. So driving was never really an option.

To go to Farnborough by train would take me 3 hours on a good day and this time would also involve replacement buses.

That's from Brighton.

Drive
Last time I looked British Airways doesn't allow me to take my car on the plane, car hire from Heathrow is very expensive and tbh I don't really fancy a 900mi round trip driving without actually sailing somewhere.

Think outside the box - I think you can drive one of these on a normal car license…

Gatwick might be easier. If no direct flight you could fly from Scotland for a weeks sailing to Canaries then weekend in Farnborough and repeat in reverse

Tricky to get most places from Heathrow IMHO. Farnborough on the train is about 50mins from Waterloo or 40mins from Reading. You can fly in to Farnborough airport, but you probably need to charter a private jet so only really feasible for Int14 sailors   Smile

My idea of a boat show is one held on a bank holiday weekend in the warmer months, Rutland water would be the venue, good road links, railway station at Oakem.
Camping from the Friday, temporary buildings, food concessions, live concert Saturday night, could be one of the big tribute acts we have in plenty, fancy dress races, generally a carnival weekend.
Combine it with a sailing boot sale, free bus touring local pubs and places of interest.
