Unless a class is active south of Watford eventually they just won’t bother coming.

Though from the north moved about 1/2 an hour away so if nothing else going will go

You try getting decent attendances to dinghy events north of Watford... Maybe there are more yottys  relatively than dinghy sailors down south but there are still way more people sailing dinghies than oop north.

Farnborough is easier or no worse for almost everyone apart from those in Essex.  Train, plane or car are all viable and they are used to hosting far bigger events than a dinghy show!

As to getting to Farnborough by rail or tube, good luck with that.

Farnborough is a surprisingly good venue and much better and more flexible than Ally Pally. Don’t diss it until you have been. It won’t suit everyone in terms of travel, but then nowhere will that is affordable and convenient from a relatively low participation and interest sport.

Give it a try 👍

(I used to work on the nearby business park overlooking the airfield, and used to live nearby, so have a first hand viewpoint)

Essex ? If you live North of London it’s worse

From Darlington (main East coast train line) it was an easy day trip. Farnborough adds 3 hours onto the round trip.

It’s not an easy decision and there are no easy answers. Do you make it easier for the minority or the majority or just make it easier for the admin and growth of the venue. Whatever, provide an answer yourself as it is clear we have outgrown Ally Pally .

Don’t provide an issue but provide a solution

Not it the exhibitions game but plenty if you Dr Google

“At Coventry Building Society Arena, just a stone's throw from Birmingham, we have a variety of halls and lounges suitable for small and large exhibitions up to a collective 20,000sqm”

For GRF’s benefit, Farnborough is on a fast rail line from Waterloo.

Perhaps there’s an argument for alternating between southern and midlands / northern venues but it would no doubt increase costs and put off some exhibitors.

How many people from Darlington went to Ali Pally?   LOL And it adds 20 mins each way according to safari maps if you drive.
