No, they have two or three drawbacks on the sea, they've got this little sticky up bit that's a self baler that will get destroyed when beaching (the main reason I didn't end up with one), they've got nothing to get hold of when you want to help someone in and onto the trailer, and they have a mining tendency in waves.

Plus there's a guy at our club giving quite a good account of himself in an A7 often beating me, and he's got a mate in an A9 that came past me the other night like i was stood still, (but stacked it later on the run)but when the winds up a bit doesn't matter wether I'm wiring the Farr, or semi wiring my Fireblade thing he's all over me like a bad rash. Only time I can nail him is in marginal planing and waves and only with Herculean kinetic effort and using the waves to full effect, but once he clocks what to do, I'll be history.

I’ve raced a aero and own a D-zero , both good boats and  the biggest difference between them was and is the quality of the marketing. The down side of this is sometimes Aeros were sold to people who believed the marketing a little too literally. But the bottom line is the Aero has sold in thousands and the D-zero has sold in hundreds and I cannot see that percentage of sales changing .
On a personal level I just prefer how the D-zero feels underneath me and the fact I only need one sail to cover all the conditions I would sail in . Smile

Is the baler a real problem. Looks pretty small and for those non shore dumpers we use trailers😁. Is it really nosy on the sea or does it just look like it? They seem to have plenty of events on the sea and Shoreham seems home to some.

Probably not, they were just my thoughts 7 years ago and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, I have read accounts of them not being the kindest boat downhill in waves, but then so are lots of others and I dare say, once my butt gets sat in an Aero, a lot of other issues will become apparent over the course of time. One thing I have learned in my time in dinghy world, I'm more often wrong about things than right.

You were right about "they've got nothing to get hold of when you want to help someone in and onto the trailer" it's like wrestling with a very large (but light) bar of soap while staggering in the surf. A bit too Jeux Sans Frontiers.

Double figures at Shoreham I believe and no reports of the self bailer bulge on the D-Zero being damaged during launch or recovery anywhere to my knowledge.

Well to be fair Shoreham and the beaches on that stretch of the coast are a lot kinder than ours, they do at least get sand, we have hard shingle which gets nastier the lower the tide. Suffice to say everybody at that demo however long ago it was thought exactly the same and it's why not one evr came here yet there are three or four Aeros which is not a natural ratio, I would have thought there would at least be one or two Zeros to every four or five Aeros at any given club with reasonable water access, it's still my view the Zero is much the better boat and nicer to sail, just not off our beach.

Aero’s can pick up dings so I’m not sure I would buy a new one to sail onto a shore dump on shingle! Min you hauling up through that stuff asks for a light boat🥵

That’s not a problem for GRF . He has the perfect technique for hauling boats across a shingle beach, we have all seen the pics of him and the rs100 lol lol  Smile

Seriously though , all power to him and everyone else that sails on the sea off a shingle beach.
It’s not for me , I am a total pond monkey . Smile

And that's pond pussy, don't insult northern monkeys, some of them sail on the sea.
